One of my favorite apps is called 500px. It's a high-end photo-sharing community and it has a ton of awesome stuff on it, from nature shots to portraits to experimental stuff like the photo above. What I love is the way the photo is actually a composite of real aerial photos, spliced together to create this impressionistic image of Earth from space. This technique, taking real photos to create a hypothetical or fictional landscape, fascinates me. What about variations on this idea, focusing on certain regions? A continental image of, say, South America, with key features like the Amazon and Rio de Janeiro and even slum areas) exaggerated and highlighted? Regional composite portraits? Sounds like an excellent series waiting to be made.
